Professor Gavin Turrell
Inequalities in Health and Social Epidemiology
Professor Gavin Turrell is Principal Investigator on the NHMRC-funded HABITAT study. HABITAT is examining age-related change in health behaviours, risk factors, and physical and mental health between 2007 and 2018, and assesses the relative contribution of environmental, social, psychological, and socio-demographic factors to these changes. Professor Turrell is also a Chief Investigator on the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Healthy, Liveable, and Equitable Communities, where he is leading a research program examining whether the neighbourhood built environment is causally related to health and wellbeing.
Prior to joining the Institute for Health and Ageing Professor Turrell was appointed as an NHMRC Research Fellow (1999-2015) in the School of Public Health and Social Work at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, where he is currently an Adjunct Research Professor. Professor Turrell is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
