IHA's Dr Cat Connaughton awarded best oral presentation at ASBHM conference

CAT ASBHM conferenceLast week, at the Australasian Society for Behavioural Health and Medicine (ASBHM) and APS College of Health Psychologists Conference on the Gold Coast, IHA Research Fellow Dr Catherine Connaughton was awarded the Best Oral Presentation by an Early Career Researcher.

Catherine’s presentation was titled Medication Commencement to Prevent Subsequent Osteoporotic Fracture: Implications for Intervention’ highlighted the 30% increase in osteoporotic-related fragility fractures and associated costs in Australia by 2022. Specifically, Catherine identified several roles for health psychologists in the osteoporosis field, including improving negative health outcomes associated with osteoporosis-related fragility fracture, assisting to increase medication commencement and adherence rates, and facilitating the prevention of osteoporosis and osteopenia by addressing modifiable lifestyle factors.
